The main focus of this study is to highlight primary science teacher education program for effective classroom performance in Nigeria. This paper examined basic science and technology education, primary science teacher education, factors which influence pupil's performance in basic science and technology education, and the ways for improving basic science and technology education in Nigeria. In order to achieve the effective classroom performance in Nigeria, the paper recommended that there should be effective implementation of objective of basic science and technology education, sufficient qualified teachers in all the primary schools, effective delivery of primary science textbooks, there should be adequate funding by the major stakeholder (government). This will improve the teaching and learning of basic science and technology education in primary schools in Nigeria.

This paper examined the state of social studies education in Nigeria. Education is an excellent instrument that affects positive changes in any society. For expected changes to occur, the spatial spread of human resources, materials and infrastructures must be a veritable tool to be used. The issues of human resources and infrastructures need to be addressed by stakeholders in the educational sector. The purpose of education is to develop individuals in any society. The challenges that hinder these development in Nigeria are then examined in this paper. These include issues of quality of teaching staff, spatial spread, bad administration, politicization of school, infrastructural facilities and funds. The paper further suggest solutions to these issues raised such as an improve infrastructure stoppage of political interference in schools and even spread of teachers, among others.

The study examined strategies for improving the quality of visual art teachers in Nigerian colleges of education. It looked at the concepts of Visual Art Education and the Art Educator as well as the standard qualities of Visual Art Educator. It also looked at the problems affecting Visual Art Educators' performance and effects of poor quality of teachers, on graduates of Visual Art Education. Among the problems revealed by the literature are: limited number of highly qualified professionals; lack of perceptual and physical effectiveness; lack of standard visual art studios, equipment and materials for quality research. The paper also revealed that compromised teachers quality would hinder the graduates from developing intellectual skills and knowledge which will in turn lead to unemployment and poverty. To remedy the situation, the colleges of education should encourage and absorb best students of art; sponsor art teachers on art workshops, seminars and conferences from time to time; provide standard art materials, studios, books and equipment to the teachers, introduce modern techniques of performance evaluation; give grants/ loans to encourage the art teachers and stringent measures should be employed to check examination malpractices and checkmate the excesses of sexual harassment and extortion of money from students.

Education is the major factor in achieving national growth and development in any country. The teacher is the main vehicle of transporting education to the citizens. He is the facilitator of all Educational Endeavors, the quality of the teacher determines the quality of education given to the nation, the saying goes that “A nation cannot rise above the quality of its teachers. If this is the case we need to look at the contemporary Teacher Education to determine if Teacher Education in Nigeria would enhance optimum productivity in National development”. Therefore, this paper investigates Teacher Education, it made a brief historical view of Teacher Education in Nigeria as well as look into issues constituting problems to teacher education and proffed ways on how Teacher Education could be repositioned for optimum productivity and national development.

This paper views teacher education in Nigeria and its implication for the future. Teacher education has both positive and negative implications on the future of any nation. This implies that either it will produce optimally or not is a function of its inputs. Teacher education is a pivot on which the growth of the nation rotates. Therefore, those who manage it should bear in mind the futuristic payoff by ensuring that both human and material resources are judiciously handled to achieve societal predetermined result. Teacher education in this 21st century deserves a comprehensive attention from all tiers of government, nongovernmental organization, and philanthropists. The quality of teacher education is a reflection of our general education system and our level of concern should be demonstrated in our commitment and provision of needed resources. As a matter of fact, this paper looks at the concept of teacher education in Nigeria, the origin of teacher education, the development of teacher education, the curriculum of teacher education, contemporary issues and challenges of teacher education, managing teacher education for optimum productivity, and the way forward.
